Who are you currently crushing aka your WCE?
Wow this is difficult there are SO many amazing, talented women that I am crushing on. Right now I would say Princess Nokia. She is so hardworking and inspirational. She really stands for what she believes in and preaches that in her music. I admire the way she demands to be respected as an artist by her peers, being in a male dominated industry.
Who would you Freaky Friday with and why?
I admire so many artists, but I wouldn’t trade being myself for anyone else’s life. I’d rather work to make that life my own. Is that a cop out answer? I just never look at an artist and think “I’d love to be like them” I always think “I’d love to be their friend,
how do I work to get to that level” haha.
What's the most Chicago thing about you?
Hmm well I was born in Wicker Park, which has now become the glorified “hip” neighborhood of Chicago. Right next to the hospital where I was born is my dad’s old high school, Roberto Clemente Community Academy. He grew up in Humboldt Park and moved to Logan Square when I was born, which is the neighborhood in which I now reside. It’s all come full circle. Certified west side.
You have the chance to meet one of your idols and ask them one question; who would it be and what would you ask?
Kanye West. I would just ask what his best advice is for upcoming artists who want to be great.
What are you up to now? Shamelessly plug yourself!
I’m constantly working on my music until it is something I am satisfied with enough to release. I try to keep my actual strategies/plans with that pretty under wraps. Outside of music I am starting my own fashion line. Several of the pieces are already completed and I am just working on the business end of things at the moment. I’m really eager to expand on all of my creative passions, not only music.
What is your favorite website or blog?
I really love Remezcla. There are so many amazing blogs out there, but no one is really putting on for Latin artists and I really admire Remezcla for supporting Latin artists and keeping our culture alive.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I have really big aspirations and goals for myself. I see myself living comfortably off of my art at the bare minimum, but I have much more planned than that. I know myself and I know I will never settle for an average life. I want to be influential and open up doors for fellow Latinos.
What is your favorite movie or book right now?
I’ve been watching a lot of Gregg Araki films recently. One of my favorites being Nowhere. I think is perfectly captures youth in a very experimental/psychedelic way. I really like the book
The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell. It’s all about trends and social behavior, which is great knowledge to have as a musician and designer.
What is your favorite color?
It changes every few years. Purple has been going strong for a while now though.
Outside of your current career or passion, what would you spend the rest of your life doing?
I don’t like to think about “the rest of my life” because I want to allow room for change and growth. Maybe after my music career is established I’ll discover another passion of mine based of the series of events that is my life. I’m down for the ride and want to let my life unfold the way it is supposed to without too much planning. I want to gain as much knowledge as I possibly can, travel as much as I can, interact with and learn from as many people as I can, and expand on my creativity. That’s all I really know for sure!
